Breastfeeding is a natural process, and yet 92% of people experience breastfeeding problems. [1]

You might find that your breasts can leak, particularly in the early days when your milk supply is establishing itself. Some mums even begin to leak before they’ve given birth.

Our Breast Pads are made from super soft bamboo which wicks moisture, is thermo-regulated, breathable, naturally hypoallergenic and antibacterial to reduce the risk of infections such as mastitis.

The triple-later design absorbs your milk and protects from leaking through your clothes, ensuring you feel confident no matter where you go.

Around 1 in 5 breastfeeding mums get mastitis, a painful infection of the breast tissue usually caused by a blocked milk duct. [2]

Sore, cracked, or bleeding nipples affects around 50% of breastfeeding people in the first week after birth. Engorgement can also lead to dry and irritated skin.

Breasts can leak, drip or even spray milk in the weeks (and sometimes months) after delivery. This can be exacerbated by an overabundant milk supply.

How many Breast Pads do I need per day?

It’s recommended that you change your Breast Pads often to keep your skin healthy and dry. A breastfeeding, leaking mum typically uses 3 pairs a day. If you want to ensure you always have Breast Pads ready to go, have 3 pairs available throughout the day, 1 to 2 pairs in the wash, and 1 spare pair in your diaper bag in case of emergencies.

Should I wear the Breast Pads at night?

Mums often worry about leaking throughout the night, especially in the early weeks until milk supply stabilises. Wearing Breast Pads during the night can limit the number of clothes that need to be washed due to milk leaking – you’ve got plenty of things to do besides extra laundry.

Make sure to wear a bra that allows your breasts to expand during the night to avoid discomfort and blocked ducts. If you prefer not to wear a bra, opt for a maternity tank top with a built-in bra to hold your nursing pads in place.

What size are the Breast Pads?

The Breast Pads measure 14cm in diameter, so are larger than regular nursing pads to keep you fully covered day and night and to avoid accidental leaks.

How do you wash the Breast Pads?

What are the Breast Pads made of?

Inner layer: 78.5% Bamboo Fibre, 21.5% Viscose.
Absorbent middle layer: 80% Polyester, 20% Polyamide Fibre.‍
Outer layer: 100% Polyester.

Why is breastfeeding important?

Breastfeeding benefits mums by promoting faster recovery from birth, reduced breast and ovarian cancer risk in later life, and improved mother-infant bonding. For baby, breastfeeding protects against chest, ear and urine infections, diabetes, eczema and asthma. Evidence also suggests breastfed babies are better protected from SIDS, heart disease, and coeliac disease. [3]

How long should I breastfeed for?

Australian breastfeeding guidelines recommend exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months, then continued breastfeeding combined with solid foods for 1 year and beyond, if both mum and baby wish. In Australia, 90% of new mums initiate exclusive breastfeeding, but only around 15% continue until 5 months.[4] Kin’s Breastfeeding Essentials are designed to tackle the common breastfeeding problems that contribute to this drop-off.

How do I know when to call my doctor?

It’s normal to experience some breast pain and nipple discomfort while breastfeeding, and it’s a good idea to ask your doctor or midwife about what you can expect. The Breastfeeding Essentials bundle is designed to help you alleviate these, but if you find your symptoms are worsening, give your doctor a call.
